L.A. Civil Rights looks for engaged community members and community-based organizations to join the Advisory Committee for their REPAIR Zone and be a critical part of implementing the participatory budgeting process for their community.

For Individuals: Advisory Committee
Advisory Committee Members are volunteers from the REPAIR Zone that represent the interests of their community and support outreach and engagement activities during the Idea Collection and Vote phases of the L.A. REPAIR Process. Members work closely with the Community Engagement Partners to identify outreach opportunities and plan activities.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Support community outreach and engagement activities during the Idea Collection and Vote phases, such as by tabling at community events and hosting voting stations
- Work collaboratively in a group setting where diversity is valued and different perspectives are freely exchanged in a respectful manner
- Available to attend most committee meetings (held virtually on Tuesday evenings, approx. two times a month for two hours each)
For Organizations: Community Engagement Partner
The Community Engagement Partners receive a small stipend to provide community outreach and engagement activities during the Idea Collection and Vote phases of the L.A. REPAIR process. Partners work closely with the Advisory Committee to identify outreach opportunities and plan activities. Stipend amounts vary by REPAIR Zone and number of selected partners, from $9,100 - $17,000 per Zone.

- Plan and implement community outreach and engagement activities during the Idea Collection and Vote phases
- Work collaboratively in a group setting where diversity is valued and different perspectives are freely exchanged in a respectful manner
- Available to attend most committee meetings (held virtually on Tuesday evenings, approx. two times a month for two hours each)
Preferred Experience and Qualifications for the Advisory Committee:
Your lived experience is valued in the selection process. Advisory Committee applicants are not required to meet all the preferred qualifications listed below, and those who can clearly describe how their experiences, knowledge, and skills may serve the Committee have a better chance of being selected.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Available to attend most committee meetings (held virtually on Thursday evenings, approx. two times a month for two hours each)
- Able to work collaboratively in a group setting where diversity is valued and different perspectives are freely exchanged in a respectful manner
- Able to engage comfortably with community members and nonprofit partners to outreach for the program, such as by tabling at community events and hosting voting stations
Required Qualifications:
- Live within the boundaries of the REPAIR Zone
- Be at least 16 years of age by January 1, 2023
- Passion for civic participation and a commitment to ensuring all REPAIR Zone community members can participate in the participatory budgeting process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience serving immigrant communities, limited English proficient individuals, people with disabilities, youth, students, seniors, or veterans, and any other groups of residents that have been historically underrepresented or underserved by City government or its processes
- Experience in community organizing, economic and social justice, voter registration, and/or other civic engagement activities
- Knowledge and experience in planning or managing public and private projects, participatory budgeting, or other public participation programs
Although there is no direct compensation for being a part of the Advisory Committee, our goal is to reduce barriers to participation. This may include subsidized transportation, providing access to computers and the internet, or helping with issues such as food insecurity or child care.
